The baby has jaundice so she has to be on the special light bed for so many hours per day. This means mom gets to hold her while she is feeding her, but dad doesn't because the rest of the time she needs to be on the light bed. Usually babies with jaundice only need the phototherapy (light therapy) for a couple of days to speed up the breakdown of the bilirubin that is causing the jaundice.
